My friend, Hanss is competing for the chance to design for Florence + The Machine. He is a multimedia artist based out of the Okanagan, and his vision is transcendent. Please vote for him.
This is Hanss’ artist statement:
Recently I’ve been coping with the unexpected passing of a close friend of mine, a promising 20 year-old who would’ve been great in all aspects if given a longer lifetime. In search for understanding, I visited a clairvoyant who suggested I look through old photos and search for little circles, assuring me that these were spirit forms of energy. Although I was skeptic, I found it romantic and searched for them everywhere.
I wanted every photo to have that surreal light glare or dust particle. Those little circles appear would mean that perhaps he was out there, somewhere; perhaps death was not the end of his existence. I wanted to create a dichotomy between light and dark, and a contrast between the normal and the surreal. Outside the window is a ‘clear-as-day’ scene meanwhile inside this room, a dream-like ceremonial occurs.
These bubbles are meant to represent a surreal visit from him, coming over me like some holy rite, as I concentrate and set alight, only if for a night.
